Next Drug Enforcement Administration Drug Take-Back Day is April 27, 2013!
The next Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) nationwide prescription drug take-back day is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 10 am to 2 pm.
Beginning April 1, 2013, a collection site locator will be available on the DEA webpage.
This
is the safest way to dispose of unneeded and expired medication. Doing
this helps prevent drug abuse and protects the environment.
Clean out your medicine chest
In Santa Clara County locations, please go to this website. (generally the drop offs are all at Valley Medical.)
You can safely dispose of your unused and expired medications in your household trash. When discarding unused medications, ensure you protect children and pets from potentially negative effects:
- Pour medication into a sealable plastic bag. If medication is a solid (pill, liquid capsule, etc.), add water to dissolve it.
- Add kitty litter, sawdust, coffee grounds (or any material that mixes with the medication and makes it less appealing for pets and children to eat) to the plastic bag.
- Seal the plastic bag and put it in the trash.
- Remove and destroy ALL identifying personal information (prescription label) from all medication containers before recycling them or throwing them away.
